NGA ATOIBA THONGBA/ MANIPURI FISH STEW

INGREDIENTS

  • Tilapia – 200 gms

  • Shallots – 7-8 pieces

  • Potato – 1 medium size

  • Tomatoes – 2

  • Garlic – 4 cloves

  • Ginger – 1 inch

  • Green chillies – 5

  • Green peas – ¼ cup

  • Bay leaf - 1

  • Mustard oil – 1 tbsp

  • Turmeric powder – 1 tsp

  • Red chilli powder – 1 tsp

  • Roasted and powdered cumin and coriander seeds – 1 tsp each

  • Asafoetida – pinch

  • Cilantro/ Coriander leaves – for garnishing

  • Salt – to taste

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Chop onions, tomato, potato, ginger , garlic and chillies. Clean the fish and cut into 1”x 1” cubes

  • Heat oil in pan, add hing and bay leaf and fry for few seconds.Add onions and suate till it is soft.

  • Toss the potato and fry them for 2-3 minutes. Add ginger, garlic, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and saute weel. Add ¼ cup of water . Fry tehm for a mintes and add tonatoes

  • Fry for couple of minutes and then add green peas, chillies, salt. Mix them well and fry for 30 seconds.

  • Add fish, give a quick mix and then add water and bring it to a boil

  • Once it starts boiling, cover the lid and cook for 8 minutes, then remove the lid and cook for 5 minutes.

  • Garnish with cilantro leaves.
