INGREDIENTS:
Horse gram - 1 cup
Garlic - 6 cloves
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Tomatoes - 1 large
Chilli - 1 no
Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
Chilli powder - 1 tsp
Salt - to taste
Pepper - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds - ½ tsp
Fenugreek seeds - ½ tsp
Curry leaves - few
Jaggery - 1 tsp
Coriander - few
METHOD:
Boil horse gram in a pressure cooker for 10 minutes. Drain the water and set aside.
Soak tamarind in water and make a puree out of it and set aside.
Heat the oil in the pan add cumin, garlic, pepper and saute till it pops.
Add in medium chopped tomatoes and saute it till they start to become semi dry. Add salt and cooked horse gram and remove off the heat.
Let this mixture cool and then grind to a smooth paste. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, urad dal, fenugreek seeds and cumin. Let it pop. add in the tamarind juice the ground paste and the curry leaves. Let it simmer on low flame for 10 minutes.
Add in the left horsegram leftover lentil water. Cook for a couple of minutes add in small piece of jaggery and coriander leaves. Remove off heat.
Serve hot with rice.
