Ingredients:


  • Pepper Powder – 2 tbsp

  • Turmeric Powder – 1 tsp

  • Coconut – 1 cup

  • Cumin Seeds – ½ tsp

  • Green Chilli – 3 nos

  • Curd – 500 ml

  • Yam – (chopped) – 1 cup

  • Curry Leaves – 1 spring

  • Coconut Oil – 2 tbsp

  • Ghee/ Butter – 1 tsp

  • Fenugreek Powder – ½ tsp

  • Salt to taste


To Temper:

  • Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp

  • Dry red chilli – 1 no

  • Curry Leaves – 5 leaves

Method:


  • Dissolve turmeric powder and pepper in water. Let it sit for 10 mins.

  • Whisk curd till smooth and leave it aside

  • Grind coconut, green chilli and cumin to make a smooth paste.

  • Strain the turmeric pepper water and let the water boil for 2 mins on high flame. Add the chopped Yam.

  • Add more water if needed and cook until the yam becomes soft.

  • Remove from flame, add the oil, ghee, salt and whisked curd, mix well.

  • Place the mixture back on the flame and simmer for 5 mins. Add the ground paste, fenugreek paste and mix well.

  • Temper mustard seeds, red chilli and curry leaves and add it to the kaalan.
