Ingredients:
Pepper Powder – 2 tbsp
Turmeric Powder – 1 tsp
Coconut – 1 cup
Cumin Seeds – ½ tsp
Green Chilli – 3 nos
Curd – 500 ml
Yam – (chopped) – 1 cup
Curry Leaves – 1 spring
Coconut Oil – 2 tbsp
Ghee/ Butter – 1 tsp
Fenugreek Powder – ½ tsp
Salt to taste
To Temper:
Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
Dry red chilli – 1 no
Curry Leaves – 5 leaves
Method:
Dissolve turmeric powder and pepper in water. Let it sit for 10 mins.
Whisk curd till smooth and leave it aside
Grind coconut, green chilli and cumin to make a smooth paste.
Strain the turmeric pepper water and let the water boil for 2 mins on high flame. Add the chopped Yam.
Add more water if needed and cook until the yam becomes soft.
Remove from flame, add the oil, ghee, salt and whisked curd, mix well.
Place the mixture back on the flame and simmer for 5 mins. Add the ground paste, fenugreek paste and mix well.
Temper mustard seeds, red chilli and curry leaves and add it to the kaalan.
